With kitchen shears, handedness can change how the blades work, yet we found very few made for the left hand. Among sellers that serve US buyers, we found two with reversed blades: one from Lefty’s, a US specialist store, and one from Ernest Wright, a UK maker that delivers to the US. We also found two more whose maker says they suit left- and right-handers. This guide separates the two groups, with specs taken from each maker’s own site. For knives, see our left-handed knife set guide or our best chef knives.
Why left-handed shears are different
Scissors and shears cut because the two blades press together as you close the handles. Lefty’s, a specialist retailer, says reversed blades work with the natural left-handed cutting motion, while right-handed blades fight it, and that the reversed arrangement lets a left-hander see what is being cut. Sheffield maker Ernest Wright says a true left-handed pair must be an exact mirror image of a right-handed pair, because a left-handed user operating right-handed scissors pushes the blades apart rather than together.
That is the difference to look for. A handle can be shaped for either hand, but only reversed blades change how the cutting edges meet in the left hand. We therefore list the reversed-blade pairs first, and then the models whose makers describe them as suitable for both hands.
How we chose
We’re a research-led site. We read each maker’s own product page in October 2026 and quote only what it says. We searched Amazon US by name, and by model number where a product has one, for every product below on October 17, 2026. Two of the four appear there, and those two carry an Amazon link to the exact model named. The other two did not turn up in that search, so they carry no link. Our October 2026 search of the US CPSC recall database found no recall for any product recommended here. We show numeric price bands rather than prices. Bands reflect observed selling prices at our last review. Offers change; check the listing.
The picks
1. Lefty’s Left-Handed 8.75-Inch Kitchen Shears (906971)
What it is: A take-apart pair of shears from the Lefty’s left-hand store with reversed blades and a grip the maker describes as custom designed for lefties.
Best for: A left-hander who wants the blade arrangement itself reversed, at a price well below hand-forged shears.
Specs (from Lefty’s own product page, October 2026): 8.75-inch overall length; Japanese stainless-steel blades; micro-serrated blades; blades come apart for cleaning; large plastic handles. Lefty’s says the blades are reversed so that lefties can see what they are cutting.
- Pros: Reversed blades are stated by the maker, not implied; the blades separate for cleaning; micro-serrated edges are described as non-slip.
- Cons: The page we read on October 17, 2026 showed the pair as out of stock, with a back-in-stock notice; it does not give a steel grade, blade length or warranty term; we did not find it in Amazon US search results, so there is no Amazon link here. Search for the model number 906971 on Lefty’s own site.
2. Ernest Wright Turton Kitchen Scissors, Left-Handed
What it is: A left-handed version of the traditional Turton kitchen scissors pattern, made by Ernest Wright in Sheffield, England.
Best for: A left-hander who wants a heritage-pattern pair and is willing to order direct from a UK maker and wait.
Specs (from Ernest Wright’s own product and warranty pages, October 2026): 3.5-inch (8.89 cm) blade length; 420B stainless steel; made as a mirror image of the right-handed pattern; lifetime warranty. The page notes that a batch can take up to 12 weeks.
- Pros: The maker describes it as a true left-handed pair, an exact mirror image of the right-handed pattern; Ernest Wright’s warranty page covers each pair for life against defects in materials and workmanship.
- Cons: It is made in batches, so waits can be long; it is made in the UK, and the maker says it accepts US orders with duties paid; check delivery times at checkout; it is not sold through Amazon US as far as our search found, so there is no Amazon link here.
3. Kuhn Rikon Pro Kitchen Shears
What it is: Long-handled, spring-assisted kitchen shears from Kuhn Rikon. It sits in our under $25 band.
Best for: Someone who needs a pair that works for left- and right-handed cooks in the same house, and who wants to cut with one hand. Kuhn Rikon labels it for left- and right-handers.
Specs (from Kuhn Rikon’s own product page, October 2026): stainless steel; micro-serrated blades; integrated quick-release spring for chopping food with one hand; self-sharpening blade; long straight handles. Kuhn Rikon says the shears are suitable for left- and right-handers.
- Pros: A quick-release spring for one-handed chopping (maker’s description); the maker states suitability for both hands.
- Cons: The Kuhn Rikon page we read in October 2026 does not describe the blades as reversed, and it does not say how they meet in the left hand. The product page does not state a warranty term.
4. Kuhn Rikon Kitchen Shears Universal
What it is: A soft-touch-handle pair with a built-in herb stripper and twist-lid opener. It sits in our under $25 band.
Best for: Everyday prep in a mixed-handed household. Like the Pro, Kuhn Rikon labels it for left- and right-handers.
Specs (from Kuhn Rikon’s own product page, October 2026): stainless steel; micro-serrated blades; soft-touch handles; integrated herb stripper; opener for twist-off lids; blades come apart for cleaning. Kuhn Rikon says the shears are suitable for left- and right-handers.
- Pros: Built-in herb stripper and lid opener; the maker states suitability for both hands.
- Cons: The Kuhn Rikon page we read in October 2026 does not describe the blades as reversed. The product page does not state a warranty term.

What we found but didn’t recommend
We don’t recommend a pair on a listing title alone: a reversed-blade claim has to appear on the maker’s own page. Misen’s Standard Kitchen Shears say on the maker’s page that the design is ambidextrous, for left- or right-handed use. We left them out because the Amazon listing we found for Misen’s black shears does not state the size, so we could not match it to the exact model on the maker’s page.
Frequently asked questions
Do left-handed kitchen shears really exist?
Yes. In October 2026, among sellers that serve US buyers, we found two: one from Lefty’s, a US specialist store, and one from Ernest Wright, a UK maker that delivers to the US. Lefty’s and Ernest Wright each describe a pair with reversed or mirror-image blades.
Are shears labeled for left- and right-handers really left-handed?
Their maker doesn’t say so. Kuhn Rikon says its Pro and Universal models are suitable for left- and right-handers, but neither page says the blades are reversed. We list them as both-hands options, which can be a practical choice in a mixed-handed household.
Why do right-handed shears feel wrong in the left hand?
Ernest Wright says that when a left-handed user operates right-handed scissors, the blades are pushed apart rather than together, which reduces cutting performance. Lefty’s makes a similar point about reversed blades working with the left-handed cutting motion.
Where can I buy truly left-handed kitchen shears?
Directly from the specialists that make or sell them. In our October 2026 research, Lefty’s own site listed model 906971 and Ernest Wright’s own site listed the Turton in a left-handed version. Neither was in the Amazon US search results we ran, so check stock and delivery on the maker’s page.
The verdict
If you want reversed blades, look first at Lefty’s 906971 and, for a hand-made UK option, the Ernest Wright Turton; neither turned up in our October 17, 2026 Amazon US search, so buy from the maker or specialist. If you need a pair you can find on Amazon US that a maker describes as suitable for either hand, the Kuhn Rikon Pro adds spring action, and the Kuhn Rikon Universal adds an herb stripper and lid opener.
